3 years after the release of Vol. 1 with groundbreaking tracks from Namito (‘City Of Gods’), Oliver Koletzki (‘Technica Salsa’), Lutzenkirchen (‘My Girldfriends Girl’), Swen Weber (‘Samba De Bochum’) it’s now time for the second edition of Great Carnival Stuff. All tracks are produced especially and exclusively for this compilation and combine the artists’ own interpretation of carnival with their respective trademark grooves. This second part starts with great tracks from dutch house masters DJ Madskillz & Anton Pieete, Kling Klong artist Hermanez from Belgium, Argentinian wonderboy Loko, our man from Munich Lutzenkirchen, Italian stallion Heartik, Deadfish boss Mowgli, UGLH presenting their new project Bulo, and Break New Soil hotshot Romano Alfieri

Ramon Tapia is definitely one of the hottest new talents in Europe. With releases and remixes lined up also on labels like Strictly Rhythm, Sci+Tec, Monique Musique and Riva Starr’s new label Snatch! his dj- and production career kick-started from zero to none. The steady support by very diverse djs from Josh Wink, Michel Cleis, Thomas Schumacher and Len Faki to Riva Starr, Joris Voorn, Sébastien Léger and 2000 And One helped him to get confidence in his stylistic path of choice.

For sure this upcoming proper debut album “Sunka Sanka” will be the next big highlight for the Belgian producer from Antwerp, son of a Chilean political refugee and a Dutch mother. Like in his earlier profession as an official gold smith, his sound scapes are pure machine made jewellery, all perfectly polished for the dancefloor.

With the exception of “I Want You”, the track he did with dutch techno legend Secret Cinema, the full album is produced by him alone in Antwerp in his tiny bedroom studio. Whenever Ramon needs to check his productions on a proper soundsystem the legendary club Café D’Anvers opens its door also during daytime.

Ramon’s music definitely makes people smile – and bounce. It’s filled with the joyous exuberance of the high octane party spirit that initially inspired Ramon to get involved when he was young. It was actually down to his two elder sisters whose musical taste had a huge influence on the youngster. Returning home from the most renowned clubs of the Nineties their gleaming eyes told tales of exuberance and liberation, making Ramon aware of the power of the electronic beats.

Completely fascinated by the sounds of Front 242, Frank De Wulf, Kraftwerk, A Split Second, Tyree Cooper and Kevin “Reese” Saunderson, it was only after his move to Belgium’s techno power capital Antwerp that Ramon started to buy vinyl and become involved in DJing. Working in a record shop while studying to be a gold smith, he realized that music was his life, subconsciously tracing his father’s foot steps.

His dad, the only other musician in the family and whose music was provocative enough to enrage the repressive military government of his home country Chile, is possibly one of the main reasons why Ramon does not get disheartened on his way to the top. “I just want to do my own thing and play.”

Happy Birthday Great Stuff Recordings!

Best Of Great Stuff – mixed, mashed and edited by Tomcraft & Lützenkirchen

One of the most powerful labels in dance music and biggest success stories turns 5. Great Stuff looks back with pride on its countless fantastic releases and amazing artist family. It all began back in 2003 in Munich with a few nice tracks by founding member Tomcraft, the British duo Coburn and from Gusgus, the labels very special friends from Iceland. These not only lead towards highly acclaimed album releases by Gregor Tresher, Butch, Coburn, Ramon Tapia and Luetzenkirchen but also to numerous international underground club hits. Some even appealed to a broader audience and climbed up into the single charts. Great Stuff clearly started as one of THE leading electro-house labels, breaking into unknown territories with genre defi ning releases like Coburn’s – “We Interrupt This Program”, The Egg – “Walking Away / Tocadisco Remix” und Mason – “Exceeder”. Though it was never about only that one sound for GSR. The musical direction has always been clear: Peaktime club tunes from any genre – be it house, electro or techno, from minimal to maximal. It was always about the premier league of tasteful club anthems, the future classics with that extra melody or vocal rather than just about pure dj-tools.

The double cd “5 Years Of Great Stuff” gives you the perfect overview and outlook of the divers sound of Great Stuff: CD 1, presented by Tomcraft & Lützenkirchen lets you travel through the back catalogue with their Best Of Great Stuff mix: 35 classics mixed, mashed up and edited, from left to right, from the big classics to the latest tunes. CD2 exclusively consists of brand new versions from the current Great Stuff artists, remixing their respective favourites out of the GSR Catalogue. Plus a very special highlight: the birthday serenade from Tomcraft & Lützenkirchen.

The three last years have been crazy for Mainz-based German Turkish producer and DJ Bülent Gürler, the driving force behind the brawny pseudonym Butch. Well, actually, all his life has been crazy. From his early days as a graffiti artist to today, Bülent Gürler, a sparkling individual with a great sense of humor, has always pushed the envelope. An immensely talented, music-ridden, technique-crazed person with a strong zest for recognition, he’s undergone a huge artistic metamorphosis in order to expose himself. And now that his “Papillon” is spreading its wings, Butch is ready to take off!

The album is much more than a debut as the second CD includes material previously released on labels as prestigious as Trapez, AFU Ltd., Craft Music and of course his main-label Great Stuff, thus offering a huge retrospective of the last few years’ activities. A DJ-mix which encompasses more of Butch’s output under different monikers, sometimes released under his real name Bülent Gürler, and is significantly crunchier and tougher than the first disc — with remixers or co-producers like Oxia, Popof and Amir on duty this comes not as a surprise. It shows a more club focused side of the incredibly versatile talent that is Bülent. And knowing him means knowing that that is only the beginning.

24 anthems by 24 amazing artists from 24 different countries to support their national teams at the Olympic summer games in the Chinese capital Beijing. This is the concept behind the second Great Stuff compilation (after the very successfull Great Carnival Stuff earlier this year) full of wonderful exclusive tracks. And of course the original Olympic idea (“not to win but to take part”) is inseparably linked to the respect of the human rights. Be it in the sports stadium or on the dancefloor. This ideal is emphasized by the Austrian duo Makossa & Megablast who decided to start for Tibet (instead of their home country) with a Mantra spoken by Konchok Yoenten: Düsum Sangye (The Prayer to Guru Rinpoche for Removing Obstacles and Fulwilling Wishes: Guru Rinpoche, the Buddha of past, present and future. “Dewa Chenpo” – Guru of Great Bliss-the source of all the Siddhis. “Düd Dül Drakpo Tsal” – Wrathful One that subdues Negativity – who removes all obstacles. Grant your blessings we pray! Through them, may all obstacles-outer, inner and secret- be quelled, and may all our aspirations be fulfilled. Namaste!

It’s Carnival time all over the world and Great Stuff comes up with its first compilation full of exclusive carnival goodies from their artists and friends. Infected by the groove and spirit of Rio, Venice, Trinidad Tobago, Cologne/Mainz, Mardi Gras…..11 artists from all over the world (Wehbba from Brazil, Fergie from Ireland, Florian Meindl from London, Koletzki and Namito from Berlin….) produced exclusive tracks for that compilation. And obviously they had to capture the carnival vibe and transform it into an outstanding track. Oliver Koletzki and Swen Weber were in full samba feeling, while Butch was inspired by his hometown carnival in Mainz/Germany and Florian Meindl by Venice/Italy. Other artists like Namito, Nudisco and Stephan Hinz used the percussive aspect of carnival for their track which definitely resulted in a great groove. By the way, Irish techno god Fergie did his production together with Gregor Tresher to make it real Great Carnival Stuff.
